Warsaw Electric are a dynamite new(ish) unapologetic rock/hard rock band based out of Berlin – with four members from four different countries (Italy, Australia, Denmark/Germany, UK), they represent the epitomy of the Berlin music scene, with its huge international artistic community who’ve found their way to the city that gives you the space and the encouragement to experiment until you’re blue in the face.
With a defiantly upbeat vibe and a lot of punkish energy, Warsaw Electric are the kind of band that eschew digital trickery to present a stripped down and dirty guitar/bass/drums/voice with no softening around the edges. We caught up with them and asked them what the hell they think they’re doing…
So first things first: how did you come up with the name?
We started practicing first at Warschauer Straße. Warschauer is German for Warsaw. It’s that simple. We weren’t particularly creative with our name. We also choose the word Electric as we try to make sure everything we write sounds raw, electric and unedited.
You’ve just released a brand new video to go with your single Holding On. Why did you decide that this was the moment?
We finally saved up enough pennies from Juliane’s Only Fans account to make a music video and people love ‘Holding On’. We also got a sweet deal on the video package 😜 shoutout to Orvokki.
… The Only Fans thing may be a joke but putting music and videos out isn’t cheap and so it’s always an option on the table.
Tell us about your musical background:
Juliane (singer) says she studied music at Berkeley… but none of us believe her. If you ever have a spare 6 hours you should ask her about it.
How would you define indie? What do you personally think it means?
For us it means making good music with no money… to make even less money
What was your biggest stage fuck-up?
For our first gig we didn’t really plan ahead and just played through all of our songs. When the crowd were shouting “one more song” at the end of the set we were like “shit we don’t have anymore songs!” so we just walked off the stage without saying anything. We were all nervous, but it must’ve seemed pretty rock ‘n’ roll to the crowd!
How Covid 19 and the lockdown influence the music scene?
We’re selfish and so we will mainly answer this for ourselves. The whole of our latest EP (Anomie… go check it out on Spotify) was written during COVID. We just formed a few months before and so it was actually a great opportunity to write and rehearse without putting any pressure on ourselves to gig.
Jakub (Guitarist) – That being said, one trend I have noticed is all of the bangers that have been released by my favourite bands since Covid kinda went away. I think they had them stored and ready for when they could gig again!
How would you like to see the music industry change?
We’d like to see Warsaw Electric headline every major festival in the world.
Our music as a film genre? Whatever genre Trainspotting is.
What’s the process for you writing music?
Jakub (guitarist) sits at home writing songs with his cat. We then thrash them out for a few hours at rehearsal and then abracadabra.
What is quite unusual about us when writing is that we don’t really write on software. The most futuristic we get is Jakub sending over videos of new riffs in the group chat.
Who would you never share a stage with?
Long story short… Day Clinic. Fuck you Day Clinic and give us our cymbal stand back.
In ten years you look back to today and think:_____
Can I get my cymbal stand back yet?
If your music was a movie which genre?
Whatever genre Trainspotting is.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
We are all from different countries and cultures. This mixed with different music tastes means we all bring something unique to the table. New ideas from what we are each listening to at any given moment. We all bring our own inspirations to the songwriting process. For example, Aaron the drummer has contributed one bass riff in the four years we have been together.
Thanks, Aaron.

What do you like most about indie Republik?
They’re giving a voice to up and coming bands in Berlin who would otherwise not get that chance. It’s pretty rad.
Warsaw Electric have an EP out, Anomie, and have last month released their first video single, the high energy freakout that is Holding On.
