Elysées, the latest single from up and coming indie band Bonheur, comes as a surprise.

From this group of young and boisterous indie kids I’d expected something upbeat and jangly, but Elysée is a love song that’s absolutely wreathed in a sense of loss and sadness.

The repeated refrain “I want to count the stars with you / I want to be with you” doesn’t make me think for a moment that this is a situation where the boy is going to get the girl. Afraid not.

Absolutely wreathed in a sense of loss and sadness

This is the perfect soundtrack to a long, slow rainy afternoon of lying on your bed, looking out at the falling rain and being lost in the sad knowledge that she doesn’t love you and never will.

Bonheur are based between Stuttgart (which may be why they feel so sad ;)) and Berlin, and have been making definite waves with the perfect pitch of their nu-indie sound and surefire approach to weaving what even now half sounds like an indie classic.

A surefire approach to weaving what even now half sounds like an indie classic

Already featured on playlists from FluxFM, ByteFM and even having graced the exalted Indie Brandneu Spotify Playlist, this band is definitely going places.

Maybe then they’ll cheer up a bit 😎
