The 9th of November is a date to remember in Berlin: because this is the day that, 35 years ago and almost by accident, the iron curtain broke, the Berlin Wall opened, and the two Berlins became one (okay that did take a while but this was definitely a dramatic beginning!)
On 9 November , Berlin celebrates the Peaceful Revolution and the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with the Festival for Freedom. As a highlight, a large concert is planned for the evening along the former inner-city border strip between East and West.
Under the motto ‘Hold up freedom’ , thousands of signs will be displayed along a route of over 4 kilometres on 8 and 9 November, showing historical and current thoughts on freedom and democracy. The highlight of the evening will be the ‘Band for Freedom’ concert, where hundreds of musicians will perform an 8-song live set along the route and rock out together with visitors in favour of democracy and freedom. The approximately 700-strong ‘ Band for Freedom ’ will be positioned at 5 big points along the route: Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz, Brandenburg Gate, Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus, Futurium/Alexanderufer.
Come along and celebrate democracy and liberal values with us and the ‘Band für Freiheit’! We look forward to seeing you.
