Review The Snuts new album Joy In Short Moments out on October 23

Snuts

On 23 October 2026, Scottish indie rock band The Snuts will release their fourth studio album, Joy In Short Moments. It arrives through Happy Artist Records in partnership with Virgin Music Group. After years of touring, recording and living with the pressure of a fast moving music industry, the band has made an album about slowing down. It is about returning home, becoming a parent, facing loss and learning to notice the small things that make life meaningful.

A Band Coming Back to Itself

The Snuts formed in West Lothian, Scotland. Over the past decade, they have built a reputation for energetic guitar pop, sharp melodies and emotionally direct songwriting. Their fourth album feels different from their earlier records. Frontman Jack Cochrane explains that, after three albums of constant movement, he felt pulled back towards real life.

The band returned to their home region after living and working in Glasgow. This return shaped the new record. Joy In Short Moments is not simply an album about nostalgia. It is about the complicated feeling of coming back to a place that changed you, while you have changed too.

Joy Without Denying Pain

The title of the album is important. The Snuts do not present happiness as something permanent or easy. Instead, they suggest that joy often appears in brief moments. A phone call with a friend, a walk through familiar streets, a quiet evening at home or the feeling of being understood can matter more than a grand achievement.

The album explores success, failure, parenthood and loss. These themes could easily sound heavy, but The Snuts keep their music open and hopeful. Their songs acknowledge that life can be difficult without pretending that it is only difficult.

“Defibrillator” and the Art of Being Present

The lead single, “Defibrillator”, introduces the emotional core of the album. It is a bright, guitar driven indie anthem about choosing to live more intentionally. Cochrane describes it as a song about showing up for the people around you, letting go of ego and finding joy through presence.

The track has a clear carpe diem message. It encourages listeners to take life less seriously and to stop letting everyday worries take up all the space. Rather than treating anxiety as something shameful, the song suggests that it becomes smaller when it is shared with other people.

Why This Release Matters

Joy In Short Moments is a strong release for anyone interested in contemporary British indie rock. It shows a band moving beyond the familiar story of ambition, touring and success. Instead, The Snuts ask quieter questions. Who am I? Where should I be? Where am I going? What makes it all worthwhile?

The album is especially relevant in a culture that often measures value through visibility, productivity and constant movement. The Snuts offer another idea. Perhaps meaning is not found in doing more. Perhaps it is found in paying attention to the people and moments already around us.

Joy In Short Moments will be released on 23 October 2026. It is a warm, thoughtful and melodic album from one of Scotland’s most engaging indie rock bands. It deserves attention not only as a new release, but as a story about growing up without losing the ability to feel joy.
