On 6 November 2026, British artist Shygirl will release her second album, SWALLOW!, through Because Music. It is her first full-length record in four years, following the acclaimed Nymph, and it arrives at a moment when she seems ready to show a different side of herself. The album keeps the club energy that first made Shygirl stand out, but it also brings in guitars, live instruments and a more personal way of writing.
From the Club to Something More Personal
Shygirl, whose real name is Blane Muise, began in the London club scene, where she built a sound from UK garage, trip hop, experimental pop and dance electronics. Her debut album Nymph arrived in 2022 and helped her move beyond a narrow electronic audience, turning her into one of the most interesting figures in contemporary British pop.
Since then, her career has grown quickly and taken her far beyond the underground spaces where she started. Shygirl supported Beyoncé during the London dates of the Renaissance tour, toured with Charli XCX and Troye Sivan, and worked on projects connected to Charli XCX and Madonna.
However, SWALLOW! does not sound like an attempt to become bigger or louder. Instead, it feels like an attempt to expand her musical world, allowing Shygirl to show that she does not want to be limited to one image or one genre. For her, the new album is not a goodbye to club music. It is another chance to show who she can be.
Love Without Submission
The central theme of the album is love, but Shygirl refuses to write about it as a rescue story or a perfect romance. On Nymph, she often described longing for someone who might not love her back, while on SWALLOW! she finds herself inside a relationship and tries to capture feelings as they happen.
Importantly, the artist does not connect her new calmness only to her partner. She explains that she met him when she already accepted and loved herself, which makes love feel less like a solution and more like a part of a life in which she knows how to be real.
Shygirl also rejects the simple idea that softness means submission. She believes that saying...
“I am lucky”, “I can” or “who are you to decide for me”,
is another form of resistance, especially for an artist whose image has often been read through sexuality, the body and appearance.
A New Sound Without Breaking With the Past
Shygirl worked on SWALLOW! with producer Karma Kid and composer Casey MQ, and for the first time she more confidently asked for guitars and piano to be added to her music. The electronic foundation of her earlier work remains, but it now shares space with warmer textures and a more organic sense of songwriting.
The album can already be partly heard through three singles. “Alyse” sounds distorted and raw, “Lucky [Hymn]” combines acoustic guitar with a haze of trip hop, and “Mantra” returns the listener to the dancefloor with fast synths and rhythmic energy.
Together, these songs show an album that cannot be reduced to a simple move into indie. Shygirl brings together dance music, guitar arrangements, choral vocals and more personal lyrics, making her club identity wider rather than abandoning it.
The Visual Language of the Album
The cover of SWALLOW! shows a chick inside an egg, an image that captures the main idea of the record. It is a story about birth, vulnerability and the willingness to let new feelings in.
The visual language continues in the music videos. The video for “Lucky [Hymn]”, directed by Shygirl and Austen Taylor Pease, unfolds a tense story in a kitchen. Shygirl appears at first in a calm domestic setting, but the familiar space slowly becomes uneasy. The camera follows small movements, glances and silences, turning an ordinary room into a place where desire, control and anxiety meet. The video does not explain the story directly. Instead, it leaves space for the viewer to feel the tension growing beneath the surface.
Why You Should Listen
SWALLOW! is an album for anyone who loves electronic music but is tired of its coldness, as well as for indie pop fans who enjoy bolder sound choices. Shygirl does not choose between the club and vulnerability, or between dancing and honesty. She leaves room for all of them.
SWALLOW! will be released on 6 November 2026 through Because Music. It is a bold and personal album from a British artist who continues to expand what modern pop and club music can sound like.
